Honoring Service and Sacrifice...

Members of the Community in Oregon stand to honor with dignity the sacred memory of all those who served and those who have died as veterans of our armed forces. We believe that a lasting legacy is not an exploitation of sacrifice, but a responsibility toward it. We exist to assist, honor and recognize those who have served. It is also our hope to involve all veteran organizations participation to help meet the goal that no veteran be forgotten. VOAMC was founded in 2003 to aid and assist all veterans who honorably served in the armed forces of the United States of America . We endeavor to foster, preserve and perpetuate their memory and sacrifices that make all our freedoms possible

For many veterans, there was no welcome home, no acknowledgement of the sacrifice they made in service to our country. For most, there is not a ticker-tape parade. We seek to at least thank and recognize all veterans who served our nation, no matter the era or branch of service. In doing so, we created two programs:

The Field of Honor
...
a traveling memorial consisting of 1,000 flags, all of which have been previously flown over our nation’s capital. Each flag pole will contain nameplates of veterans who served in the armed forces. Veterans, friends, or family members of a veteran can have a nameplate added to a flag in the Field of Honor for a one-time charge of $50. (Covers flag replacement as they wear out).

Honorable Service Medal
...
a custom-designed, engraved medal in appreciation for the service and sacrifice of veterans in our state. These medals will be presented to all veterans in Oregon free of charge..... Read more about the Honorable Service Medal.

Veterans of Oregon Field of Honor

The Field of Honor will afford a place of gathering between brothers and sisters both present and past. The Field will consist of 1,000 National Flags, all previously flown over our nation’s capital, to bring national symbolism to Oregon . The flags will be posted in the form of a maze, a walkway that will take travelers by each flag in the Field. The journey will provide travelers time to reflect on the honor the field represents and contains as well as time to visit spiritually with veterans who have served honorably in our Armed Forces. Each flagpole numbered, and on each pole brass nameplates bearing the name of a veteran to be remembered, never forgotten. The Field will be portable; can be transported and displayed from one end of the state to the other. The field will have no specific beginning or end by design.

Among the first names posted will be the names of Oregonians who have fallen while in service to our nation from this point forward, at no charge to surviving family members. Any veteran with an honorable service can be remembered in the Oregon Field of Honor. Adding a nameplate and have it placed in the Field is available for a one-time fee of $50. Revenues will be used to replace the flags as they expire and assist financing medals.

Nameplates will be added to each of the 1,000 flag poles one at a time. Once a nameplate is on every flag, a second row of names will be started. Then a third row, and so on. Each pole can bear approximately 100 nameplates. Specific flag number placement is available based on availability. The Field will be available for display by request at any event in the state, also at no charge. Conflicts of schedules will be resolved by committee on a first come/first serve basis, priority will be given to sponsors. The only requirement for display will be to provide volunteers to staff the Field, 24 hours a day and lighting during hours of darkness. A record of each flag pole by number and each engraved nameplate placement will be available on site for visitors to locate any veteran in the field.
